World Book Day is on Thursday and many thousands of us across the country will be celebrating. I have something really special planned here on Library Mice which I am really looking forward to sharing with you all.
But whilst we do this, let us not forget how lucky we are that we have such easy and free access to books both in libraries and schools.
Let us remember that for some children, access to books is a luxury, a rarity even. Since 1954, Book Aid International have worked hard at trying to combat this in sub-Saharan Africa, and have so far sent over 30 million books there to support literacy and education.
World Book Day is the perfect opportunity to support their hard work. There are so many things around books that you can do to raise some money, but it doesn’t have to be about books: my book group at school organised a cake sale again this year in our school library and raised over £120.

You can of course donate some money. £2 is enough to send a book to Africa. Or you could take part in their Reverse Book Club: a monthly donation of £6 allows 36 books a year to be sent there.
